709 Derby Girls

Roller derby is an intense, contact-rich, fast paced sport. The once popular televised sport experienced a hiatus in the 1970s, but is now in the midst of a rapidly growing resurgence. Previously played on banked tracks, the new revival is mostly flat track and skater operated. The 709 Derby Girls is Newfoundland and Labrador's first and only roller derby league. While the team skaters are all female, the referees, announcers and other committee members are co-ed. The 709 Derby Girls is a non-profit league that offers a new and exciting sport to the St. John's area that supports active, healthy living.

Goodwill Gaming

Goodwill Gaming is a non-profit group that raises money for the Child's Play charity organization. We do so through online and offline events! Goodwill Gaming is currently based in St. John's, NL.

Child's Play is a charity organization that raises money for sick children who have to endure long hospital stays. The money goes towards their entertainment, such as video games, books and toy. Such joy and happiness brought on by the enjoyment of these items can help them maintain a positive attitude and be more comfortable during their stay. A positive attitude can go a long way in any healing process!

The purpose of Goodwill gaming is to raise money for this organization. Last year, during our first event, we raised over $800. This year, we hope amongst the three events we have planned, to raise much more than that. You can help by donating at either the Sci-Fi convention, our summer event, or if you don't live in Newfoundland, you can donate during our online winter event!

St. John's Anime Film Society

The St. John's Anime Film Society has been active for eighteen years and is dedicated to showing Japanese animation, known as anime. The society shows episodes from an animated TV series and/or a film, in its original Japanese language (with English subtitles), every 2nd Friday of the semester at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Showings take place in a large lecture room on campus so that each piece can be enjoyed on a large projection screen. Best of all, all showings are free and open to the public. Although this society does not show adult-rated anime, not all showings may be suitable for younger audiences.

St. John's Games Club

The St. John's Games Club meets at members' homes in or near St. John's Newfoundland. Various board games (such as Settlers of Catan, Zombies and home-made games) and card games (Guillotine, Lunch Money, Ninja Burger, Munchkin, etc.) are played at meetings."
