Spend an hour or two on Saturday night, April 21st, at the Sci-fi on the Rock Variety Show/Cantina. This show is suitable for all ages and has a mixture of acts, including some professional performers, amateurs, youth and the young at heart.

You will hear some filk songs (what is filk? see below), some skits, improv..and who knows what you will experience at the open mic!

Some lyrics will be provided for a sing-a-long, and we always try to find ways to include the audience.

If you want to perform a song, skit or comedy piece (remember, it has to be suitable for all ages including children), or just want more information, please let us know at scifiontherock@gmail.com

As an added bonus this year, Sci-Fi On The Rock is pleased to welcome Hammingwell!

Hammingwell Hammingwell-Group

Local progrock band Hammingwell will perform some classics with a scifi edge as well as songs from their new CD In The Box at this years Cantina.
Set time TBA, for more info on Hammingwell go to www.hammingwell.net

What is Filk Music?

Filk music originated in the 1950s when science fiction fans would gather at a convention for a sing-along. The word filk derives from folk. Apparently, there was a typo in the program flyer, and a new musical genre emerged! Basically, it's a form of music created from within science fiction and fantasy fandom, often performed late at night at science fiction conventions.
