Kenneth
Tam returns to Sci Fi on the Rock for the second year in 2008, and
brings with him the first book in his new alternate history series.
His Majesty’s New World: The Grasslands, takes place in 1919, and
features the soldiers of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment exploring a new
planet on behalf of the British Empire.
A 23-year-old Newfoundlander, Kenneth is a
Masters student in history at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo,
ON, where his thesis deals with the impact the American and Canadian
militaries had on St. John’s during the Second World War. He has won a
prestigious Canada Graduate Scholarship from the Social Sciences and
Humanities Research Council of Canada, and was a Balsillie Fellow at the
Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo during
2006-07. In that capacity, he worked with Canada’s former ambassador and
permanent representative to the United Nations, Paul Heinbecker.
Kenneth is also an author and partner with
Iceberg Publishing, his family publishing company (named for a piece of
an Iceberg once found on Bellevue Beach). He has released twelve novels
in two separate series, and has traveled from coast to coast across
Canada, doing book events, visiting classrooms, and giving workshops on
writing.
He says it is a real privilege for him to be
able to come home for the second consecutive year to be a guest at Sci
Fi on the Rock!
